Planting the Seeds of the Metaverse

Illust Space is an open augmented reality metaverse layered on top of our physical world.

Welcome to Wallet to World

Until now The Space, our AR layer, has been curated solely by us. We’ve created art exhibitions, public artwork, scavenger hunts, and solo shows.

But, we’ve only scratched the surface of what is possible.

Now, it’s your turn.

We’d like to introduce you to the Wallet to World feature, a progressively public utility that allows you to connect a web3 wallet, build a 3D scene with your NFTs, import your scene into augmented reality, and place it on our global map for anyone with a smartphone to discover and experience in the physical world.

We currently support NFTs linked to JPG and PNG files. Support for 3D models, videos, gifs, and audio is on the way.

We’ve recruited a group of pioneers composed of artists, collectors, thinkers, doers, and most importantly members of our community to explore this new world. Starting this week, they’ll be given access to this feature and the unprecedented agency to curate the world that we all share.

The Journey Begins

This is the beginning of a long and arduous journey where we’ll work together to dream big and build the tools to make those dreams a reality.

Augmented reality will be a major factor in our not-so-distant future. Google, Apple, Facebook, Niantic, and Microsoft are aware of that as well. These aren’t just the largest AR companies, they’re the largest companies period. They will use their unlimited resources to construct metaverses of their own. They will have the most advanced technology and marketing strategies, but don’t be fooled.

The worlds these companies seek to build are backward, based on the attention-based business models and lack of privacy that built their walled gardens which web3 seeks to challenge.

We built Illust Space to give us all a place to create, collect, and curate in our world. One that we own and will steward by the philosophies that originally brought us to the web3 community; decentralization, governance, ownership, trust, etc..

This project is about giving ownership in the digital world back to the individual. FAANG think that because of their resources they need only compete against each other. What they fail to understand is that intelligent actors of web3 see a world where their gatekeeping isn’t necessary. One where the individual has the agency to put up walled gardens or tear them down. One where we can experiment with our own economies, build things for both the community and ourselves, and work together to recreate the internet the way it was meant to be.

The users have the power, not them.

And we’re not afraid to use it.

The most important recurring theme in the blockchain community is that the power of the individual lies in participation. Whether you’ve received an airdrop for being an early user on a platform or watched our “niche” community shake up Capitol Hill for attempting to incompetently regulate us.

This quote from Buckminster Fuller, one of our favorite futurists, sums it up well.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

We fight the existing power structure by participating in the new one.

With today’s release, Illust Space presents the users of web3 with the first taste of that new model.

It’s hard for anyone to predict what the future of AR will look and feel like years from now but we believe the prevailing metaverse will be built and owned by the community. While it may seem distant, we’ve never been closer than we are at this very moment.

So go forth, fill the world with all that is digital, and hopefully good.

Let’s build our own future.
